GWERU – The Gweru City Council is actively working to improve water supply for residents.
Speaking during a recent full council meeting Gweru Mayor, Councillor Martin Chivhoko acknowledged the challenges posed by power outages, which have affected the city’s ability to provide a consistent water supply.
“We are still facing challenges due to power outages, which hinder our ability to provide a constant water supply to our residents. However, we are working diligently to ensure that citizens have access to this essential resource,” he said.
Gweru City Council Communications and Public Relations Officer Vimbai Chingwaramusee stated that despite water supply interruptions, the council is adhering to a schedule to ensure that all residents receive water.
“To improve water availability across all areas, we have been following a schedule to ensure that every citizen has access to this precious resource,” she said.
She added that while there is water at Gwenhoro Dam, it cannot be pumped to everyone at once, since the local authority needs to distribute water according to a set timetable.
“We are working according to a schedule to ensure that water is available throughout the year. Even though we have water at Gwenhoro, we cannot pump it all at once. We must distribute it systematically to ensure sustainable supply,” Chingwaramusee said.
She urged residents to use water responsibly, particularly since the city relies on seasonal rainfall to replenish its supply.
“We only receive significant water during the rainy season, and that must sustain us for the entire year. Residents must use water sparingly to ensure everyone has access throughout the year,” she added.
Despite these challenges, Chingwaramusee assured residents that the council is committed to ensuring that water is available on scheduled supply days.
“Regardless of these circumstances, we are doing our best to ensure that residents receive water on the designated days outlined in our schedule,” said the council spokesperson
