Hailstorm leaves trail of destruction

Share

A hailstorm that briefly lashed parts of Beitbridge left a trail of destruction in
Beitbridge East, where several school buildings were damaged, with some having
their roofs ripped apart.
In a constituency update, Beitbridge East Member of Parliament, Albert Nguluvhe
said some staff houses were damaged and there was need to move fast and repair
before the onset of the rains.
He said the most affected schools were Tshaswingo and Malungudzi Secondary
schools.
"I visited Ward 3, Tshaswingo to assess structural damages caused by
thunderstorms on Tuesday evening. Some public infrastructure in that area was
damaged. I have established that both Tshaswingo Primary and Malungudzi
Secondary schools had damages to window panes and roofs of classrooms and staff
houses. In addition, a solar system has been affected at the clinic, which serves the
entire ward," said Nguluvhe.
"The thunderstorms also destroyed roofs and window panes at Lesanth Primary
School in Ward 13 and several homesteads were affected," he said.
The Beitbridge Civil Protection Committee had also made full damage assessments
and they are now preparing a bill of quantities pending further action.
"As a community, let’s put our heads together and mobilise resources to fix the
damages as guided by the Civil Protection Committee," he said.
