Harare , (New Ziana) Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume on Friday met Hanshi Hennie Bosman, International Chairman of Kyokushin Budokan Karate, at his office to discuss a partnership between the city and the karate organization.
Hanshi Bosman, an 8th Dan Black Belt holder, expressed his interest in upgrading karate locally and promoting its benefits to Harare City council employees and enthusiasts. Jacob Mafume welcomed the initiative and pledged his support, citing the benefits of karate in promoting discipline, respect, and self-improvement.
As part of his visit, Bosman will lead a training and grading seminar in Harare from March 7 to 9, 2025 in collaboration with Harare City Martial Arts Club.
The seminar aims to promote the development of karate in Zimbabwe and provide a platform for local karatekas to learn from an international expert.
The partnership between the City of Harare and Kyokushin Budokan Karate Zimbabwe is expected to promote the growth of karate in the city and provide opportunities for local karate enthusiasts to develop their skills and compete internationally
“Karate is not just a sport, but a way of life that promotes discipline, respect, and self-improvement. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with the people of Harare and contribute to the development of karate in Zimbabwe,” Bosman said.
In addition to the seminar, Bosman also participated in a clean-up exercise in Harare, coinciding with the National Clean Up Day.
This gesture demonstrates his commitment to giving back to the community and promoting a culture of responsibility and civic engagement.
The Harare City Council Karate association Secretary General, Piniel Nzvenga, expressed his gratitude to Hanshi Bosman for prioritizing Zimbabwe. Nzvenga believes that the Harare City Workers in the karate body and indeed the entire country will benefit immensely from Hanshi Bosman’s wealth of experience.
The training and grading seminar will take place at the City Sports Center, with participants from across the country expected to attend.
