Harare, (New Ziana) – Schools in Harare Metropolitan Province are taking a major step toward digital learning following the donation of 20 Starlink internet kits to learning institutions across the province.

The handover ceremony was held at St Aidan’s Council Primary School on Thursday as part of the Independence Legacy Projects programme, with the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Charles Tawengwa, officiating at the event.

Among the schools in Chitungwiza that benefited from the initiative are Ndangariro Primary School, Zengeza Main Primary School, and Tasimukira Primary School. Young Africa Zimbabwe also received a Starlink kit under the programme.

Handing over the kits, Tawengwa said the programme demonstrates President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s commitment to inclusive development and equal access to opportunities.

“Access to the internet is no longer a luxury. It is a necessity — the gateway to knowledge, research, collaboration, and opportunity.

“With the provision of these kits, we are opening a new chapter, one where our schools can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world, empowered by reliable internet and modern digital tools,” Tawengwa said.

He said improved connectivity for schools would strengthen the integration of information communication technologies in education while contributing to the goals of the National Development Strategy 2, particularly in innovation, infrastructure development and human capital growth.

Chitungwiza Mayor Rosaria Mangoma welcomed the initiative, saying it would enhance the quality of education in council schools.

“This is yet another special occasion for Chitungwiza, particularly for St Aiden’s Council Primary School. Just a month ago, we were here for the Independence Day celebrations. Today, we have gathered here again for this Starlink kits programme,” she said.

Mangoma said the internet kits would create opportunities for research, innovation and online learning, while narrowing the digital gap in the town.
