Hwange stakeholders are calling for a massive investment in infrastructural development, this comes
after stakeholders have indicated that the investors only come to loot resources and leave the district in
shambles.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting hosted by Hwange District Socio- Economic Environmental
Development Stakeholders Initiative (DSEDSI), stakeholders called for an immediate intervention from
investors.
They said Investors should partner with people from the community first.
Victor Sibanda, a local businessman said the locals are not benefitting from any investment.
“We are not benefiting anything from these investors, why do they not partner with people from our
community? Investors should be given some local rules before they start their businesses, for example
they should build schools or maintain roads before mining. Hwange is not developing because we are
being sidelined ”
“There are many companies which have opened up and are partnering with people from Harare; hence
all the resources are going. Why do those companies come in through the office of the DA and get the
partners here so that we benefit as the locals. Chinese companies are running, having partnerships
behind and not coming by the office. We cannot be quiet here while our resources are vanishing, It is
very sad”
Hwange is one of the district which boast of a number of mining entities with Chinese investors
“Whoever comes to Hwange we welcome them, and we respect the processes they come with. But
what worries us is that we have not heard of any alternative areas allocated for those who are
relocated. We also need these investors to employ the locals so that everyone benefits.”said another
business person Peterson Ncube.
