Bulawayo,(New Ziana) –Finance expert Willing Zvirevo has been appointed the substantive chief executive officer for the Infrastructure and Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) with effect from June 1 this year.

In a statement, IDBZ board chairperson Kupukile Mlambo announced that the appointment of Zvirevo followed his successful tenure as the acting chief executive officer since September last year.

He said the IDBZ board was confident in his ability to drive the growth of the institution and to strengthen its role in financing the infrastructure and development agenda of the country.

“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Willing Zvirevo as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Infrastructure and Development Bank of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Mlambo said the appointment marks a significant milestone for the development finance institution as it seeks to accelerate the implementation of its strategic objectives and expand its developmental impact.

“Having successfully steered the institution as Acting Chief Executive Officer since September 2025, Mr Zvirevo steps into this substantive role to lead the Bank into its next phase of strategic development and growth,” he said.

He said the board had “absolute confidence” in Zvirevo’s leadership capabilities, strategic vision and extensive experience in development finance, investment banking and capital mobilisation.

“The Board remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting him in this substantive role as the Bank continues to play a pivotal role in financing infrastructure and economic development,” he said.

Zvirevo is a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in financial services, corporate finance, investment banking and development finance.

Before assuming the role of acting chief executive officer, he served as the IDBZ Director for Resource Mobilisation and Climate Finance, where he spearheaded initiatives aimed at strengthening the bank’s capitalisation, project financing, strategic partnerships and climate finance programmes.

His career includes senior positions at KPMG Corporate Finance, NMB Bank Limited, Sagit Finance House Limited and AMG Global Chartered Accountants.

Zvirevo also spent seven years in the Cayman Islands with the Citco Group, one of the world’s largest hedge fund administrators, where he gained international experience in alternative investments, fund structures and complex financial products.

As the principal development finance institution, IDBZ plays a central role in funding and facilitating infrastructure projects aimed at supporting economic growth, industrialisation and sustainable development.

The bank has increasingly focused on innovative financing mechanisms, climate finance and strategic partnerships to bridge the country’s infrastructure financing gap.
