MARONDERA– In an incident that took chiramu too far, a man from Machipisa Village in Mutoko is reported to have sexually assaulted his wife’s sister, resulting in her falling pregnant.

The victim is reportedly said to have visited her sister in August last year before being abused by her brother-in-law in the first incident.

When the abuse happened for first time, the victim’s sister had left her with her husband while she attended a funeral service in a nearby village. At the dead of the night, the suspect is alleged to have entered the bedroom in which the victim was sleeping and raped her once.

After the act, he is said to have threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone. In December last year, the victim again visited her sister but she was not there. The accused once again sexually abused the complainant and was threatened with death.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident saying the matter came to light when the victim’s sister observed that she was pregnant. The victim narrated her ordeal and was accompanied to ZRP Makosa where she filed a report.

At the time of writing, the accused was yet to be arrested.

In a related incident, the police are investigating another case of rape where a 21-year-old woman was reportedly attacked by her 31-year-old brother-in-law in Nyamutumbu Village, Chief Mangwende in Murehwa district.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on December 31 last year at a time the complainant was staying at her aunt’s home.

The aunt (26), reportedly left her one-year-old child in the custody of the complainant and the accused person who is her husband as she went to Bindura to check on her mother who was not feeling well.

As is the norm with rapists, the accused person threatened the complainant not to disclose the matter. A few months after the assault, the complainant subsequently disclosed the matter to her husband, who accompanied her to file a report at ZRP Musami who attended the scene, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
