A 53 year-old Masvingo man appeared before the Masvingo Magistrate on allegations of indecently assaulting his 10-year-old niece.

It is the state’s case that on October 19, 2023 in the evening the 10-year-old girl was sent to collect eggs at the accused’s house and on her way back she met him outside his house.

According to the National; Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused called the girl back inside to collect a mirror for her mother.

Once inside the accused closed the door while the girl sat on a chair. The accused allegedly stood up from his bed and fondled the girl on her chest and buttocks.

She screamed for help prompting the accused to release her. She went home and reported the case, leading to the arrest of the accused on November 6, 2023.

The accused was remanded in custody until May 8.
