Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has rallied Zimbabweans to improve sector-wide economic productivity which is key to improving the quality of life for citizens in line with government’s Vision 2030.

In a televised speech ahead of the first e-Gala, held in belated commemorations of the Heroes and Defence Forces Day, President Mnangagwa lauded heroes, living and departed, who sacrificed their lives for the country to attain self-determination.

“As we reflect on years gone by, let us also strengthen our resolve to build a brighter future and the Zimbabwe we all want, through economic productivity, hard honest work as a united and peaceful people,” the Head of State said.

“Let us strive to increase productivity across all sectors of our economy by leveraging on contemporary science, technology and innovation.”

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has to date killed 224 people and infected over 7 600 people, forced the country to hold its first virtual Heroes and Defence Forces gala as large gatherings are still not permitted under measures to curtail spread of the disease.

President Mnangagwa lauded Zimbabweans for abiding by the rules set by government during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“You have shown that Zimbabweans are law abiding and peace loving people,” he said.

“Indeed, accelerated and sustainable development will only be achieved when we are peaceful, united and hard working.”

Government, he said, would on its part, continue to implement policies and projects to improve the quality of life for the majority in line with Vision 2030.

Under Vision 2030, government is aspiring to grow and develop Zimbabwe into an upper-middle class economy.
