Harare, (New Ziana) – The High Court sitting in Masvingo has acquitted of murder on the grounds of insanity, a man from Mwenezi, and committed him to a psychiatric hospital for care and treatment, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has said.

The man fatally attacked his 29-year-old victim with a wooden stool resulting in his death a few moments later on March 21, 2022.

The two men were coming from a local shopping centre when a heated argument ensued between them, and escalated into a violent altercation.

The murderer struck his victim on the head with a wooden stool, causing fatal injuries. The now deceased called out to his wife before succumbing to his injuries. His wife discovered the body lying in a pool of blood. Villagers tracked the spoor of the accused person and apprehended him at his homestead, where they found the stool used for the murder.

Meanwhile the Lupane Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 22-year-old Bruce Ndlovu to an effective 12 months in jail for breaking into his 76-year-old grandmother’s home and stealing a pair of shoes.

The NPAZ said Ndlovu broke a lock and padlock to enter Senni Ndlovu’s bedroom while she was away and stole a pair of blue Lacoste tennis shoes.

The break-in caused ZWG310 in damages. Ndlovu was initially sentenced to 18 months imprisonment but the court conditionally suspended six months of the sentence for five years and ordered that he compensate his grandmother US$25 as restitution.
