Odzi (Pungwe News-New Ziana)-A woman in Odzi recently ran amok and killed her husband`s friend for allegedly interfering in her marriage.

Police confirmed the incident, saying investigations were in progress to ascertain what transpired on the fateful day.

Manicaland Province deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxon Chananda said the now deceased Nobert Karenje (56), from Rukudzo village under Chief Marange died after he was struck several times on the head with a wooden log by the suspect, Betina Karenje.

On the day in question, the deceased reportedly passed through his friend’s homestead and insulted Karenje, accusing her of denying her husband Charles Mamvura (52) his conjugal rights.

“Betina could not stomach these accusations and she picked a wooden log and struck Nobert several times on the back of his head until he was unconscious,” said Chananda.

A passer-by identified as Chimukai Sarumhungwe saw Nobert lying unconscious on the ground and carried him to his homestead where he left him in the care of his wife, Fungisai Shonhiwa.

Nobert passed away at 00:20 am before medical treatment could be secured.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“As police, we urge members of the public not to take (the) law into their hands, but seek advice or counseling from community leaders or elders whenever they are entangled in a dispute. People should not resort to violence,” said Chananda.
