HARARE — Popular musician Jah Prayzah has postponed his wedding, which was scheduled for Saturday in Glen Lorne, Harare, following the deaths of businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy.
The musician, who was a close friend of Chivayo, said the tragedy had left him and his family heartbroken, prompting them to put their wedding plans on hold to mourn the deceased couple.
In a message to guests, Jah Prayzah, born Mukudzeyi Mukombe, and his partner Rufaro said there were moments when celebrations had to take a back seat to mourning.
“The sudden and tragic loss of Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his beloved wife, Lucy, has left us and our family completely heartbroken,” they said.
“There are moments in life when everything else simply has to stand still. This is one of those moments for us.”
The couple also extended their condolences to the families of all those who died in the helicopter crash near Waddilove in Marondera on Wednesday.
They said Chivayo was more than a friend to them, describing him as family and a brother who had been close to them through different chapters of their lives.
“Losing him together with Lucy in such a sudden way is a pain that is difficult to put into words,” they said.
The couple said the wedding, which had been scheduled for October 3, would be postponed so they could grieve with the affected families.
“Out of love, respect and the need to grieve with family, our wedding, which was scheduled for 3 October, has been postponed,” they said.
They added that they would resume their wedding plans when the time is right.
The postponement follows the deaths of Chivayo, his wife, and other passengers in the helicopter crash, which has sent shockwaves across the country.
