Harare, (New Ziana) –The Japanese government on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to support Zimbabwe’s healthcare sector, having provided approximately US$6.5 million worth of hospital equipment and over 10 ambulances in the past two years.
Japanese ambassador to Zimbabwe Shinichi Yamanaka said this at the 2nd Annual Progress Report Meeting for Quality and Safety Improvement of Healthcare Service Provision in the capital.
He acknowledged the challenges that the Zimbabwean health sector faces, including the COVID-19 pandemic, cholera, and economic difficulties.
“It is important that this sector obtains all the support that it requires. We need to aim for Universal Health Coverage for everyone, especially those who need it most,” he emphasized.
Yamanaka commended the progress that Zimbabwe has made in the healthcare sector, citing his visits to the Gweru Provincial Hospital in the Midlands province and the Sally Mugabe Hospital in the capital, which demonstrated exceptional cleanliness and organization.
He highlighted the benefits of implementing the 5S-KAIZEN-TQM Approach, which promotes continuous problem-solving to improve processes and systems.
The 5S-KAIZEN-TQM is a quality improvement approach that combines three methodologies, namely 5S organizing and standardizing workplaces, KAIZEN continuous improvement and problem-solving, and TQM Total Quality Management.
The combination of 5S Kaizen and TQM transforms healthcare establishments into performing entities that emphasize both patient well-being and operational effectiveness.
These methodologies provide an approach to enhancing healthcare services, ensuring the successful meeting of patient needs and organizational goals.
“The Implementation of 5S-KAIZEN-TQM Approach brings numerous benefits. Not only does it enhance the workplace environment, but it also promotes continuous problem-solving that leads to significant improvements in processes and systems,” Yamanaka said.
