The death toll from the Kariba RIDA boat accident has risen to 46, with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) saying the names of the victims will be released in due course.
In a statement, the police advised members of the public and relevant stakeholders of the latest development as authorities continue with processes following the tragic accident.
“The ZRP advises Zimbabweans and relevant stakeholders that the death toll in the Kariba RIDA boat accident is now 46,” police said.
The police said the identities of those who died would be made public after the necessary procedures had been completed.
“In the same vein, the names of the victims who perished in the accident will be released in due course,” the ZRP said.
The latest figure makes the Kariba boat accident one of the country’s deadliest recent maritime tragedies, with the incident prompting ongoing efforts by authorities to account for those who were on board.
