Kariba (New Ziana) – Health authorities in Kariba said on Wednesday they had launched a mobile door to door Covid 19 vaccination campaign in the town to increase access to vaccines, especially among the elderly.

The mobile teams are offering both first and second Covid 19 jabs, and also booster shots to all eligible residents.

Officials said the exercise had resulted in reduced crowding at health centres which previously exclusively offered vaccination services.

Zimbabwe is gripped by the fourth Covid-19 wave, dominated by the Omicron variant, which forced government this month to delay re-opening schools, and to maintain level four lockdown.

The government has imported millions of doses of Covid-19 vaccines, mainly from China, and is encouraging the public to get vaccinated.

Kariba health officials said so far 11 people had received the first dose, seven got the second dose and 26 received booster shots under the door to door vaccination programme.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, and said it would boost vaccination numbers in the resort town.
