Harare, (New Ziana) – The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the temporary closure of a section of E.D. Mnangagwa Road at Highland Park this weekend to facilitate critical infrastructure development, including the installation of a 250mm sewer pipe and the erection of a pedestrian bridge.
According to the Ministry in statement on Friday, the closure will take effect from 15:00hrs on Saturday, 13 September 2025, and will run until 06:00hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025.
“The temporary measure, which targets the Highland Park section of the busy highway (Chainage 5+300), will be conducted in phases to minimise disruption to traffic,” it said. To ease congestion, motorists have been advised to use alternative diversion routes that include Ridgeway North Road, Ridgeway South Road, Boscobel Road, Hurworth Road, and Arcturus Road.
The Ministry said clear traffic signage and safety controllers will be stationed on-site to guide road users. “The Ministry regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation and patience during this essential infrastructure upgrade,” the statement read.
The road closure comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, enhance urban infrastructure, and modernisze transport services in the capital. Authorities have also urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching the affected section and to comply with traffic management personnel to ensure smooth flow during the construction period.
