Harare, (New Ziana) -The Mabvuku Interchange project has entered a crucial phase, with foundation piling work now underway as the government moves to modernise major road networks in the country.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development this week confirmed progress on the new interchange, which aims to ease congestion on the busy Harare-Mutare Highway, the route that links the country with Mozambique, carrying heavy commuter and commercial traffic.
Posting on the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) X handle, the Ministry said once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and support economic growth by enabling faster, safer movement of goods and people, with authorities having set July next year as the target completion date.
The government has said the interchange is a key component of its broader infrastructure development plan, which focuses on reducing congestion hotspots and building a transport network capable of supporting long-term economic growth.
Road users have long endured bottlenecks and delays along the Harare-Mutare corridor, a situation worsened by rapidly increasing traffic volumes and the new infrastructure is expected to bring relief while contributing to improved safety and reduced accident risks.
As construction continues with detours in place since September 2025, authorities remain confident the project will deliver a modern, efficient gateway that transforms mobility and strengthens regional connectivity.
