Harare, (New Ziana) – Sungura music legend Alick Macheso says the untimely loss of Orchestra Mberikwazvo dancer and backing vocalist Barnabas Mandipota has saddened him.

Mandipota, popularly known as Barna in music circles, passed away after complaining of a toothache during an Easter show before missing subsequent performances.

Posting on his official social media platforms, Macheso said Mandipota’s death was not only a blow to Orchestra Mberikwazvo, but to the local music fraternity as a whole.

“As a band, we are at a loss for words. We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of one of our own, Barnabas Mandipota. To the Mandipota family and all those affected, may you find comfort in the Lord. More details will be shared in due course,” he said.

The late dancer and backing vocalist was popular and loved for his energetic stage presence and significant contribution to the band’s live performances, earning admiration from fans across the country.

Fans and fellow artists have appreciated his contribution to enriching the Sungura genre in Zimbabwe’s music industry.

As mourners gather in Chitungwiza, more details on the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
