    Major-Gen Chiramba (Rtd) declared National Hero

    Harare (New Ziana) – The late Major General (Rtd) Clever Chiramba, who died on Sunday, has been declared a national hero.

    The declaration was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday when he visited the Chiramba home in Hatfield to pay his condolences.

    A veteran of the war of liberation, Major-General Chiramba (Rtd) died from Covid-19- related complications at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

    He was 66.

    The late Major General was the commander of Two Infantry Brigade in 2004 when he retired from active service.

    During active service, he commanded the brigade in the Democratic Republic of Congo war in which Zimbabwe was part of the SADC force supporting the government.

    Born on February 2, 1955 in Chivi district in Gude village, Maj-Gen Chiramba did his primary education at Jenya primary school from 1961 to 1968.

    After pursuing high school through correspondence, Maj-Gen Chiramba later joined the liberation struggle, which led to the independence of the country in 1980.

    After Independence, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army where he rose through the ranks to become a Major- General.

    The late Maj-Gen is survived by wife, Beatrice Chiramba nee Pawandiwa, eight children and 16 grandchildren.
