Bindura (Nehanda Guardian-New Ziana) – A 47-year old man from Zvakwana farm in Bindura, Mashonaland Central province almost lost a finger after a nyau dancer attacked him with a knife during a scuffle at a memorial service last month.

Prosecutor Vincent Marunya told Bindura magistrate Tinashe Ndokera that the complainant Harrison Harrison visited the farm on October 13 this year to attend a memorial service for his late uncle.

There was a variety of entertainment at the service including performances by the nyau dancers.

Later in the day, the nyau dancers approached one of Harrison’s uncles demanding a chicken as payment for their services.

The uncle refused to pay and a scuffle ensued, leading Harrison to intervene to stop the brawl.

One of the dancers Patrick Bhalluka produced a knife and almost cut off Harrison’s finger.

Ndokera sentenced Bhalluka him to 20 days behind bars with an option to pay ZWL$200 fine.
