Harare, (New Ziana) – A 39-year-old man from Kambuzuma suburb in Harare was beaten by residents on Sunday evening after allegedly caught being intimate with a 15-year-old girl inside his car.
The minor, who works as a maid, had gone outside after receiving a phone call while with her employer. When she did not return, the employer went to look for her but could not find her. He then noticed a parked car swaying and, suspecting suspicious activity, called his wife to investigate.
The wife used a torch to look inside the car and saw the girl and the man on a reclined seat, appearing to be intimate. The girl alerted the man, who quickly got out of the car and walked away, pretending nothing had happened.
A neighbour, alerted by the commotion, opened the car door and pulled out the girl, demanding answers. A crowd gathered as women began assaulting the girl, accusing her of being wayward.
Moments later, the man returned to the scene, possibly to rescue the girl, but was immediately set upon by the enraged employer who was soon joined by other men who had also come out of their houses after hearing the commotion and being told the reason.
It became a two-pronged fracas with women beating up the young girl while the men were on the 39-year-old man who was left with a bloodied mouth and a torn t-shirt, dirty trousers as he was being kicked and dragged while on the ground.
After handing the two a thorough hiding, especially the man, the community members organised transport and took them to the nearest police station.
