Masvingo (Masvingo Star-New Ziana) – In an incident bordering on the bizarre in Masvingo, a man from Mushandike Village, Chief Charumbira, recently collapsed and died soon after killing a snake that had invaded his fowl run at night.

Masvingo police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector, Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the sudden death of Peniel Manyeruke, (57), of Upton B Farm on November 22 around 10pm.

Manyeruke was sitting and chatting with his wife, Catherine Vongai Taruvinga, (44), and son, Wilson Chikwere, (31), when there was commotion at the family fowl run and decided to check.

On getting to the fowl run, they realised that a snake had invaded it.

Manyeruke took a log and killed the snake after which he went into the house to collect water and salt, leaving his wife and son outside.

Chikwere became worried when his father took long to come out of the house and decided to follow him.

He found Manyeruke lying on the floor and tried to wake him up, but realised that his father had died.

Manyeruke’s body was then taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

Asst Insp Dhewa said the post mortem results were still pending.
