Bulawayo (New Ziana) – A Bulawayo man has died after being struck on the forehead with a stone over a cigarette, police have said.

Takunda Mandizvidza, 23, allegedly killed Adam Chigwedere, 25, after he assaulted him for refusing to give him a cigarette.

Bulawayo provincial deputy police spokesperson, Nomalanga Msebele said the incident took place in Old Luveve where both lived.

“The now deceased asked for a cigarette from Mandizvidza, who refused. This did not go down well with him (Chigwedere). He then assaulted Mandizvidza with a fist once on the mouth and he sustained a cut on the lower lip,” she said.

In reaction to the assault, Mandizvidza allegedly stoned Chigwedere on the forehead, resulting in him losing consciousness.

He was rushed to Mpilo hospital for treatment but died a day later.

Mandizvidza fled from the scene after the stoning but was later arrested by police.
