Bulawayo (New Ziana) – A Harare man has lost US$14 750 to robbers who allegedly pounced on his company vehicle in Bulawayo after he stopped at a fast-food outlet to have lunch.

Police confirmed the incident, saying investigations were in progress to ascertain what transpired.

Bulawayo province police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube said the victim, Wellington Kagogo, had travelled from Harare to collect the money, and was in the company of his two workmates when the incident took place.

“Kagodo had visited Bulawayo from Harare to collect money. He went to a restaurant situated along Fife Street between 10th and 11th Avenue and parked his car. He left two satchels that contained US$14 750 behind,” Ncube said.

He said after a while, the complainant went back to the car to check his bags, and found the driver’s door open, and the satchels missing.

Ncube appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

He also urged companies and individuals to engage security companies when moving large sums of money.

“As police, we would like to urge companies and individuals to engage the services of security companies when moving large sums of money,” he said.
