Manicaland State University Appoints New Pro-Vice Chancellor

MUTARE– Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) has announced the appointment of Professor Upenyu Guyo as its new Pro-Vice Chancellor, effective July 1, 2025.

Prof. Guyo joins MSUAS from Midlands State University (MSU), where he served as Associate Professor and Enterprise Executive Director. His appoint-ment comes as part of the university’s strategic leadership restructuring.

In a statement, MSUAS Council Chairman Dr. Blessing Mudavanhu and Vice Chancellor Professor Albert Chawanda extended their congratulations, high-lighting Prof. Guyo’s extensive experience in higher education.

“Professor Guyo is a dynamic and interdisciplinary scientist with a distin-guished career in academia. His wealth of expertise will be invaluable in ad-vancing the university’s mission,” the statement read.

An accomplished academic, Prof. Guyo holds a PhD in Applied Chemistry from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (South Africa), an MSc in Ana-lytical Chemistry from the University of Zimbabwe, and a BSc (Honours) in Chemical Technology from MSU. His qualifications are further complemented by multiple professional diplomas and certifications.

The appointment signals MSUAS’s commitment to strengthening its leader-ship as it continues to expand its role in applied sciences and innovation. Prof. Guyo is expected to play a key role in driving research, enterprise develop-ment, and academic excellence at the institution.
