The Zimbabwe Football Association has announced the resignation of Marian Marinica from his position as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team, popularly known as the Zimbabwe Warriors, citing personal reasons.
In a statement issued by the association’s Media and Communications Department, ZIFA confirmed that it had accepted Marinica’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his service to the national team.

The association commended the coach for his contribution during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.Marinica’s departure comes at a critical time for the national side as preparations intensify for upcoming international assignments, including participation in the Unity Cup scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom. The tournament is expected to provide the Warriors with valuable competitive exposure against international opposition and an opportunity to rebuild confidence among supporters.

Following the resignation, ZIFA has moved swiftly to stabilise the technical bench by appointing former Warriors captain Kaitano Tembo as Interim Head Coach. Tembo, who has extensive coaching experience both locally and in regional football, is expected to guide the team through the transitional period and lead preparations for the Unity Cup assignment.

He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi, who has been appointed Assistant Coach. Chiragwi is regarded as one of the emerging coaching talents in Zimbabwean football and is expected to support tactical preparations and player development within the squad. The latest development marks another turning point for the Warriors, who have experienced several changes within their technical structures in recent years. Frequent shifts in coaching leadership have often affected team consistency and long-term planning, making stability within the technical department a key priority for the association moving forward.

Football analysts say the appointment of Tembo as interim coach could provide a sense of familiarity and discipline within the squad, given his history with the national team as a player and leader. His immediate focus is likely to centre on team selection, tactical organisation, and restoring morale ahead of the Unity Cup fixtures.

Supporters and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the interim technical team performs during the upcoming tournament, which may influence decisions regarding a permanent head coach appointment. The Unity Cup is expected to serve as both a testing ground for new strategies and a platform to assess player readiness ahead of future continental and international competitions.

ZIFA indicated that further updates regarding the team’s technical direction and long-term coaching arrangements will be communicated in due course as preparations for international competitions continue.
