Mash East stakeholders urged to work together to woo investors

Harare (New Ziana) -Heads of government departments in Mashonaland East have been urged to work together whilst promoting dialogue among key stakeholders in the province as they strive to create an enabling environment for investment.

Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Apolonia Munzverengwi made the call at a high-level meeting in Marondera on Tuesday, whose aim was to afford stakeholders the opportunity to understand President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s people-centred transformative agenda.

Munzverengwi told the guests that the expectation over the next five years was that Government business will be anchored by the “whole of economy and society development approach.”

She said the open-door policy must be the norm hence stakeholder engagement and dialogue should be promoted.

“Provincial heads will be measured by their agility and innovativeness towards accelerating our economic growth, modernisation, industrialisation and global competitiveness.”
“It is not business as usual. Hard, honest work should be engrained at every level of our government. We must collectively implement bold policies to achieve impactful results,” she said.

Munzverengwi said gone were the days when the public sector only focused on reporting on activities and tasks, but to reporting on results, outputs and outcomes, adding that institutions, systems and processes would continue to be strengthened through the Integrated Results-Based Management System.

She said implementation of the Digital Agenda should be accelerated so that public services were offered online for the convenience of the public.

As a province and working together with the central government, Munzverengwi said they were aiming at implementing crucial projects such as completion of the Kunzvi Dam, construction of major roads, completion of the Dombotombo flats, Hwedza E-passport office and drilling of boreholes in villages, among others.

They also intended to intensify development work in areas such as consolidating food security and sovereignty through higher agricultural production as well as mechanisation and modernisation of the sector.

Munzverengwi urged the guests not to be deterred by the ruinous sanctions that some Western countries imposed on the country, but focus on innovation and ingenuity that have seen the country realise unprecedented results across all sectors.
