KweKwe (New Ziana) – The Kwekwe city council has announced plans to build new clinics, schools and upgrade roads, among other things, after securing $1 billion in devolution funding from central government.
The government is funding thousands of community development projects countrywide, with local authorities charged with the responsibility of implementing these and helping to run them on completion.
The programme is meant to transform for the better the lives of citizens, particularly those from marginal areas of the country.
Presenting the 2023 city council budget, a top municipal official said various projects were on the cards, including installing smart water meters, opening a drug rehabilitation centre, construction and expansion of schools, sporting and health facilities.
Most of these will be carried out in high density areas.
The council hopes the projects will help draw investors to the city, one of the fastest growing in the country.
