AT LEAST 200 projects funded through the Inter-Governmental Funds Transfers have been completed across Masvingo Province as the Government continues to work towards an upper middle income society by 2030.
Some of the projects that are being undertaken by the various local authorities in the province include the constructions of schools, development of health facilities and the maintenance of roads.
The Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, last week said there had been massive development in the province through the funds which seek to uplift communities.
“Under the Devolution, over 700 projects have been supported with 200 projects completed and commissioned while, others are at different stages of completion. Through the implementation of Inter-Governmental Funds Transfer massive infrastructure projects seeking to close developmental gaps have been witnessed in communities,” he said.
In rural development councils, the local authorities were able to construct maternal wards in the districts, a move which is assisting expecting mothers by cutting short the distance they were travelling to health care facilities.
“Standard schools and clinics have been constructed, roads have been rehabilitated and solar powered boreholes drilled in drought-prone areas. Capital equipment ranging from motorised graders, back hoe loaders, refuse compactors, borehole rigs have been acquired and are being used to enhance service delivery in communities,” he said.
Minister Chadzamira said the Second Republic has been able to implement different projects in the province despite being under sanctions and has rallied the province to continue working towards the attainment of the US$8 billion economy by 2030.
“These sanctions may have slowed us down, but they have not stopped us. In fact, they have revealed our true character, the indomitable spirit of Zimbabweans especially here in Masvingo. You have shown that even when faced with adversity we have the power within us to rise,” he said.
“The future of our province lies in our hands. Sanctions may try to slow us down but they will not stop us. We must continue to build our province with resilience and self-reliance. We will push forward towards attaining an US$8 billion economy by 2030 as we move towards our Vision 2030 of becoming an upper middle income economy.”
Meanwhile, Minister Chadzamira said in the energy sector the province had witnessed significant strides in clean energy production.
