Masvingo October 23, 2019 (Masvingo Star-New Ziana) –A 21 year old man from Mucheke high density suburb, Masvingo town, will spend the next four months behind bars after being convicted for stealing basic commodities worth over $120 from his mother’s bedroom while she was away at work.
Maria Shoko (51) of 20 Tangwena Street, Mucheke high density suburb in Masvingo town reported her son Tawanda (21) to the police after she came back from work to find that he had taken advantage of her absence to break into her bedroom and steal various basic goods worth $128 and sold them on the streets for $50.
Tawanda pleaded guilty when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Candice Kasere, who slapped him with two months imprisonment and brought two months suspended from a previous conviction into effect to make an effective four months behind bars.
It was the State case that on October 18 this year at around 6.45 am, Shoko, who is a general hand at Masvingo Christian College, left for work having secured all her doors.
Her son Tawanda, with who she stayed, took advantage of her absence to gained entry into her bedroom and stole 2kg of Maq washing powder, 2 bars of green washing soap and 2 X 2 litres of cooking oil.
On the same day around 5pm, Shoko returned home and discovered the offense.
Meanwhile Tawanda had sold the items to a man named Rhody for $50. Shoko reported the matter to the police leading to Tawanda’s arrest.
The value of the stolen property was $128 and nothing was recovered.
