Masvingo (New Ziana) – The Masvingo branch of the National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ)said on Thursday its supplies of the life-saving commodity in the region were critically low, and appealed to the public for donations.

NBSZ Masvingo province public relations officer, Michael Chakoma said all blood types were in short supply.

“Currently all blood group types are critically low, the collection volumes are on the straining side,” he said.

“As the NBSZ in Masvingo, we would like to encourage members of the public to come forward and donate blood so that we can give life to other citizens that are in need.”

Chakoma said as part of measures to increase supplies, the blood agency was moving around different parts of the province to collect blood.

“We have had a successful engagement with the people in Chirumhanzu and have managed to collect sizeable units which we hope will go a long way as we are still trying to increase our blood stocks,” he said.

Next, he said the blood agency planned an outreach to Nyika Growth Point in Bikita to also try and collect more supplies.

“We are going to engage with people from Nyika Growth Point and Gwindingwe High School as there are donors in that area that would like to donate blood this week,” Chakoma said.
