Harare, (New Ziana) – Matabeleland South Province is fast transforming into a hub of economic activity, thanks to a string of development projects being rolled out under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration as part of the Government’s Vision 2030 agenda.

Government, through a post on its National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) X handle, said the province, long known for its rich mineral endowment and agricultural potential, is now witnessing tangible progress in key sectors including mining, infrastructure, and industrial development — all aimed at improving livelihoods and spurring regional growth.

One of the major highlights is the construction of the Thuli Manyange Dam, a flagship infrastructure project expected to provide reliable water supply for irrigation, livestock, and domestic use.

Once complete, the dam will not only boost agricultural productivity but also support downstream industries and surrounding communities, transforming the province into a green belt.

In the mining sector, the Government has intensified efforts to attract local and foreign investment, unlocking the province’s vast mineral wealth that includes gold, lithium, and other strategic resources.

The mining boom is already creating employment opportunities while contributing to the national drive for value addition and beneficiation.

Complementing these efforts is a deliberate push towards industrialisation, with new facilities being established to process minerals and agricultural produce within the province. This is expected to cut transport costs, increase local value retention, and stimulate broader economic activity across the region.

“These developments mark a turning point for Matabeleland South. We are seeing Vision 2030 taking shape on the ground — creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and uplifting communities,” said the Government.

As the projects gain momentum, residents have expressed optimism that the province’s transformation will continue to accelerate, paving the way for inclusive growth and prosperity under the Second Republic’s development thrust.

With investments in mining, agriculture, and industry aligning under Vision 2030, Matabeleland South is steadily positioning itself as a key contributor to Zimbabwe’s march towards an upper-middle-income economy status.
