    Matabeleland North show a notable decrease in hectares burnt by Veld Fires

    The Matebeleland North province has seen a notable decrease in hectares burned by veld fires from 2022 -2024.

    According to Nkululeko Mathobela, Acting Provincial Environmental Management Agency,the decrease is attributed to drought and effective strategies such as capacity building at the grassroots level .

    A total of 399,622.79 hectares were lost to veld fires in 2022, 221,536.71 hectares in 2023, and only 47,120 hectares in 2024
