MBERENGWA Rural District Council has acquired 50 motorcycles in its quest to enhance service delivery for respective communities, by improving welfare and operations of its workforce.
Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister Albert Mavhunga said Mberengwa’s acquisition of the motorcycles was an important milestone in its quest for service delivery.
“We are celebrating an important milestone registered by Mberengwa RDC in procuring 50 motorbikes for its councillors,” Mavhunga said.
He said the ceremony is further confirmation of the Second Republic’s commitment to full implementation of the national vision 2030 and related policy drivers of becoming an upper middle-income economy as pronounced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Kudakwashe Machako, the director coordination in the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Midlands Province said commissioning of the motorbikes confirms the government’s desire for speedy and impactful people centric implementation of programmes.
“This shows result-oriented implementation of programmes and projects as we glide towards attainment of a prosperous and empowered upper-middle income society earlier than 2030,” he said.
Machako said using their own internal funds to the tune of US$64 000 for this project, Mberengwa has continued to show determination in the face of service delivery as envisaged by utilisation of devolution funds whereby the council managed to do various projects.
The acquisition of the 50 motorcycles for mobility and accessibility has been hailed as the answer to improve service delivery and operations in rural areas of Mberengwa.
Some of the beneficiaries hailed the government for enforcing regulations that compel councils to adhere to mechanisms that do not compromise service delivery.
“We are going to improve the way we used to do things as we are going to reach every part of the community,” said one councillor.
