Harare (New Ziana) – Construction of the Mbudzi roundabout Interchange Flyover is now half-way complete, and steady progress is being made, Ministry of Transport and InfrastructuralDevelopment permanent secretary, Engineer Theodius Chinyange, has said.

In an interview, he said the project – at the inter-section of
Harare-Masvingo, Chitungwiza and High Glen roads – should be completed
by March next year.

With a price tag of US$88 million, it is one of the biggest construction
projects in the country, and part of the key infrastructure schemes
targeted by the government.

Chinyange said 51.5 percent of the project is now covered.

The interchange will allow a smooth flow of traffic in all directions,
eliminating previous congestion which clogged the area for hours at
particular times.

“The target date of completion for the reconstruction is 17 March 2024.
The financier has appointed Fossil Construction Company as the main
contractor and Tefoma Construction as the sub-contractor,” Chinyange
said.

“A total of 42 property owners have been affected, and US$9 639 500.67
has been paid to property owners, (and) to date 17 have been compensated
whilst the remaining 25 property owners are being paid through a payment
plan.”
