A man from Bindura, whose marital problems had “overwhelmed” him, decided to take the extreme route to resolving his woes.
He was found dead, hanging from a Mukuyu (Fig tree) opposite, corner Bindura – Shamva Road and Chipadze Street on Saturday.
He has been identified as a 28-year-old of Number 10 Oval Road, Bindura.
Reasons behind the decision to take his life have been attributed to marital issues.
According to a police memo the 28-year-old is alleged to have consumed poison before hanging himself. He left a letter in which he noted that his marital affairs had overcome him hence had decided to kill himself.
The memo says that on 19 October 2022 at around 6pm, the deceased assaulted his wife Patricia Wasarirevhu over domestic issues.
Wasarirevhu immediately filed a report of physical abuse at Bindura Central Police Station.
Two days later on 21 October, the man was arrested and detained at Bindura Central Police Station.
The following day, on 22 October the man appeared in court for initial remand.
He was remanded out of custody for trial last Monday, 24 October 2022.
He returned home the same day around 6pm.
At around 8pm he went to take a bath, but uncharacteristically took long.
His wife became suspicious and decided to check. It was only then that she discovered that he in fact, was not in the room.
She then alerted her landlady and carried out a search but to no avail.
The landlady, however, discovered that her washing line made of tying wire was missing.
On 23 October 2022 at around 7.30am, Wasarirevhu received information that there was a body of a man hanging near Ran Mine, Bindura. She went there only to discover that it was her husband.
She reported the matter at ZRP Chiwaridzo.
Scene was attended by CID Bindura and ZRP Chiwaridzo, who came across a suicidal note in his pocket written in pencil and directing his family on how to share his little possessions.
He also noted that he had killed himself due to issues with his wife.
