Harare, (New Ziana) – Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona has been judged the best performing Minister for 2024, riding on the raft of measures he undertook to improve public infrastructure across the country, most notably during the run-up to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 44th summit held last year.
Mhona received the award at the performance contracts signing and awards ceremony that President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over at the State House on Monday.
Last year Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka scooped the prestigious accolade.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare July Moyo came second while Dr Masuka came third and permanent secretary in Mhona’s Ministry, Joy Makumbe came top in her category.
Other winners included Ezra Chadzamira who won in the Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution category, and permanent secretary in his office, Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa.
Blessing Chafesuka of the Mutare City Council emerged victorious in the town clerks’ category, among other winners.
The completion of the 25.6 km Mt Hampden Road project, greater Harare road rehabilitation which saw a total of 60 km of road works being done, the dualisation of the 7 km stretch of Nemakonde Road, completion of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport VVIP pavilion and the construction of the Trabablas interchange were cited among the notable projects that Mhona successfully implemented.
In an interview after receiving the award, Mhona attributed his success to visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa, who is directing him to implement government programmes and projects.
“First and foremost I want to thank our great leader, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who is the visionary leader who has been championing issues to do with infrastructure and we as conduit pipes as Ministers, we are just implementing what the President tells us to do,” he said.
