Gweru (New Ziana)-The Midlands Show Society has come up with dates for this year’s Midlands Agricultural Show, which had been deferred for close to two years due to Covid-19.

Midlands Show Society chairperson Augustine Mupakurirwa said tentative dates for the 2021 agricultural show are October 28 to 31.

The show will run under the theme: “Embracing climate change and corporate social responsibility.”

He said a total of 55 exhibitors had already confirmed participation and the show society looks forward to have more coming in.

Of the 55, Mupakurirwa said six who include Royal Secrecy International, Bayer Zimbabwe, Byson Agro, Relievers Funeral Services, Silo Industries and War Veterans were exhibiting for the first time.

He said they are still to come up with the guest of honour who is expected on 30 October for the official opening and awards ceremony.

He said economic players should strategize under any circumstances so as to make the economy tick.

“Whatever the situation, we should strategize and adapt so that productivity and the economy continues to grow,” he said.

Mupakurirwa said companies operating in the Midlands have a responsibility to the citizens by making sure that their welfare is looked at in return for the services that they offer.

He said some companies have taken up a number of corporate social responsibility projects by ploughing back to the community.

“Some have built roads, schools, clinics and here at the Agricultural show, some have come on board,” he said.

“We urge all companies, exhibitors to plough back to their communities in return for the services rendered by the community.”

Mupakurirwa said there will be high observance of Covid-19 guidelines and protocols, and therefore invited all Midlands residents to attend.

“We will definitely work with the Ministry of Health and the local Covid-19 taskforce so that people are safe.”

The chairperson said they have not made any decision about the attendance of children since there was still a month to go.

“Things could change and we are not making any hard and fast rules about it and so when we get there we will inform them.

“We cannot successfully run this show without children because they are the majority of our visitors so we hope the situation would have improved to allow children to come to the show.”

He said there would be limited entertainment as compared to previous years.
