MINES and Mining Development Minister, Dr Polite Kambamura, added another academic achievement to his portfolio after graduating with a Master of Public Policy and Governance degree from Africa University.
Dr Kambamura was among 698 graduates from 21 countries who were capped during the university’s 32nd graduation ceremony held at the institution’s campus in Mutare on Friday.
The Master’s programme is tailored for senior government officials, policymakers and development practitioners, equipping them with advanced analytical, leadership and governance skills required to drive effective public policy formulation and implementation.
Speaking after receiving his degree, Dr Kambamura said the qualification would strengthen his capacity to contribute to national development and improve service delivery in the mining sector.”This programme has broadened my understanding of public policy processes and governance systems. The knowledge and skills I have acquired will assist me in contributing more effectively to Zimbabwe’s development agenda and the transformation of the mining sector,” he said.
He added that continuous learning was essential for leaders entrusted with public office.”As leaders, we must constantly seek knowledge and new perspectives that enable us to address emerging challenges and deliver sustainable solutions for our people. Education remains a powerful tool for national development,” said Dr Kambamura.
Addressing graduates during the ceremony, Africa University Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Mageto, urged graduates to uphold integrity, servant leadership and professionalism as they take up leadership roles across the continent.”Today we celebrate minds shaped to serve. Africa’s future depends on leaders who choose integrity over shortcuts, service over self, and collaboration over division. Our graduates leave here with a responsibility to build institutions that outlive them and deliver dignity to every citizen,” he said.
Professor Mageto said the graduation ceremony reflected Africa University’s growing reputation as a pan-African centre of academic excellence, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds across the continent and beyond.
The graduation marked another milestone for the institution, which continues to produce skilled professionals in governance, business, technology, health sciences and other critical sectors contributing to Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
