Share

Harare, (New Ziana) – Outgoing Namibian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Balbina Daes Piennar said on Wednesday relations between
Zimbabwe and Namibia were at an all time high which augurs well for continued cooperation between the two countries.

Piennar told journalists after meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa that she was concluding her tour of duty after seven years in Harare and was bidding farewell.

“During my seven year tenure in Zimbabwe, we have certainly further strengthened relations at all levels – business, social, cultural, tourism and people to people interaction, Zimbabwe and Namibia are one,” she told journalists.

She described her time in Harare as “memorable and productive” as the two countries reached new milestones.

Piennar said Zimbabwe and Namibia had elevated their all round cooperation to a Bi-National Commission from a Joint Permanent Commission during her tenure.

“It is truly an achievement that demonstrates that our political relations are solid, well cemented and it has taken us to that level to further strengthen our trade relations,” she said.

The two countries also saw the commissioning of the Zimbabwe dry port at Walvis Bay, built on land donated by the Namibian government.

“We believe that alone will boost our trade relations,” she said.

Twinning agreements, aimed at boosting cooperation, were also signed between two provinces of Zimbabwe and two regions of Namibia.

“I am leaving behind a lot of achievements,” Piennar said.
