Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday said the resignation from government by former Vice
President Kembo Mohadi this week was “unexpected but accepted.”
Mohadi stepped down on Monday following a public expose of alleged illicit affairs with four women which he denied.
But retains his post as Second Vice President in the ruling Zanu PF party.
Addressing the 349th session of the Zanu PF Politburo, and commenting on the resignation for the first time, President Mnangagwa called for unity in the party, thanking Mohadi for the three years he served in government advancing its objective.
“We convene today following the resignation of Col (Retired) K.C.D Mohadi from the post of Vice President of Zimbabwe. His resignation from the governance architecture of the Second Republic was unexpected but accepted,” President Mnangagwa said.
Despite the resignation, President Mnangagwa said it was necessary for the ruling party “to remain focused on the development programmes and activities to increase productivity, creating jobs, fighting corruption and growing our economy.”
“Let us further cherish and inculcate the values of ubuntu, accountability, transparency and hard-honest work,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa said the ruling party was expecting more defections from opposition leaders who are keen to join Zanu PF.
“The Chitepo Scholl of Ideology must move with speed to re-orient and nurture these new cadres in line with the ideology of our party and national development paradigm, which is underway,” he said, exhorting party members to “welcome these comrades who have come back home.”
Recently, two opposition leaders from the Movement for Democratic Change, Lilian Timveous and Blessing Chebundo dumped their party for Zanu PF.
