Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign is progressing smoothly, with more people under the targeted groups volunteering to receive the drugs.
Zimbabwe, which is conducting its inoculation program in phases, started vaccinating front line workers last month after receiving 200 000 doses from the Chinese government.
The Chinese government later donated a further 200 000 doses while the Zimbabwe government bought an initial 400 000 doses of Sinovac vaccines from China.
These enabled the broadening of the vaccination program to include other groups including teachers and people with chronic illnesses.
In a daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the uptake of the vaccines was commendable.
“4 373 received their first dose today (Saturday) bringing cumulative for first dose to 65 466 while 1 396 received their second dose bringing cumulative for second dose to 7 965 (as at 1600hrs),” the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the country recorded 13 new cases and one death from COVID-19.
” As of 27 March 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 36 818 cases, 34 575 recoveries and 1 519 deaths.”
