Harare, (New Ziana) – Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi on Saturday met President Emmerson Mnangagwa for talks as the two neighbouring leaders continue to consult on the deteriorating security situation in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province and strengthening bilateral ties.

The Mozambican President in a statement said “the visit of the Head of State to that country falls within the scope of regular consultations in the capacity of current SADC chairperson, as well as in the strengthening, deepening and strengthening of the bilateral relations” existing between the two countries.

Mozambique is currently under the spotlight as the security situation in that country, where government forces are battling an Islamist insurgency, continues to unfold.

SADC has ordered a military response to the insurgency which has gone on for four years, and has claimed over 3 000 lives and displaced about 700 000 Mozambicans.

Regional leaders met twice last month over the situation and are due to meet again on June 20.
