MSU Lecturer Wins Research Award

Gweru (New Ziana) – Midlands State University (MSU) lecturer and researcher Dr Rosemary Guvhu has won an award for her research work on inclusive leadership and e-learning in marginalized Zimbabwe.

Dr Guvhu received the “the best paper award” for her research paper presented during a virtual international conference on business practices and innovations in public sector e- learning and e-management hosted by the Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology .

The Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology is a private college affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprashtha State University located in Rohini, New Dehli, India.

MSU public relations officer Tungamirai Mashandure said, “students in developed economies, the transition from face to face learning to virtual e-learning platforms has been somewhat smooth. The same cannot be said for students from under-developed economies.”

In her research titled “the Role of Inclusive Leadership in Facilitating Electronic Learning during the Coronavirus disease 2019 in Zimbabwe marginalized schools, Dr Guvhu examines how effectively school principals use inclusive leadership strategies to promote e- learning in 300 marginalized schools during the Covid -19 pandemic.

The study discovered variations in the way principals made use of four defined inclusive leadership strategies for e- learning, suggesting that they seldom produced change or shared a common vision.

According to the findings, there was need for principals to be more inclusive by being impartial, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging multiple voices.

“The central role that principals must play in helping to ensure that students from the underclasses are not excluded from accessing education in line with the National Vision 2030 which seeks to achieve inclusive quality education for all,” said Dr Guvhu.
