Harare, (New Ziana)- Marry Mubaiwa, the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who on Saturday was denied bail by a Magistrate court on charges of assaulting the family’s housemaid over access to the children, on Tuesday approached the High Court appealing against the ruling of the lower court.

Mubaiwa is asking the High Court to release her on her current bail conditions on separate charges.

She is facing charges of assaulting Delight Munyoro, who had gone to collect the feuding couple’s minor children at Hellenic School in Borrowdale last week after she denied her access to them.

Through her lawyers, Nyambirai and Mtetwa, Mubaiwa is denying prosecution claims that she slapped the child minder following a row at the children’s school on January 28.

Mubaiwa accuses Munyoro and VP Chiwenga of fabricating the assault charges against her so that she is returned to prison.

She is also accusing VP Chiwenga of using the legal system to frustrate her and gain an upper hand in their ongoing divorce case which is yet to be set down for hearing.

Apart from the new assault case, Mubaiwa faces a string of other charges, including alleged attempted murder of VP Chiwenga, for which she has been granted bail.

Muibaiwa is also accused of flouting the country’s exchange control regulations by allegedly externalising hefty sums of money to South Africa, and also of trying to fraudulently upgrade their customary marriage to a civil one without VP Chiwenga’s knowledge and approval.

She was granted bail, and awaits trial on these charges.
