Harare,  (New Ziana) – As Zimbabwe celebrates its 45th Independence Day, the nation stands at a critical juncture of reflection and forward momentum, with renewed calls for unity, economic self-determination, and pride in the country’s revolutionary journey, a senior Zanu PF official has said.

In a statement on Thursday ahead of the commemorations, ruling ZANU PF party spokesperson and war veteran, Christopher Mutsvangwa hailed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership, framing the ongoing revival of the steel and energy sectors as a milestone in Zimbabwe’s march toward Vision 2030.

“The restoration and redemption of steel production shall forever stand as a high point of the long and winding political engagement of the President. He has reached that apex of a revered African leader and a global statesman,” said Mutsvangwa.

He praised the Second Republic for harnessing the country’s natural resources and sovereign independence to power developmental projects, highlighting Hwange Colliery’s resurgence as a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s energy future.

Mutsvangwa said, today Zimbabwe prides itself in the ability to develop using its own resources through indigenous hands with President Mnangagwa’s mantra, ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business,’ attracting multi-dollar investments and re-establishing Zimbabwe’s economic base.

As citizens across the country gather to celebrate independence, Mutsvangwa emphasized that the commemorations transcended political affiliation and identity.

“Citizens should embrace the festivities as independence goes beyond silo identities of party, colour, race, gender, age, creed, and religion,” he said.

These national programs must unite people because this is not a ZANU PF program but a national celebration. Independence was fought for everyone,” said Mutsvangwa, adding that Zimbabwe’s periodic democratic elections are a symbol of its sovereign nationhood and commended the government’s inclusive development agenda, aligned with the Second Republic’s mantra of “leaving no one and no place behind.”

Looking to the future, Mutsvangwa urged the youth to understand the historical struggle that paved the way for modern Zimbabwe, saying the independence the country enjoys today was not handed to it, but came through blood and sacrifice.

In addition, he voiced strong support for Zimbabwe’s new currency, the ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold), introduced as a step toward economic independence.

“Political independence without economic independence is incomplete. It is a travesty of sovereignty to farm out the issuing of currency to foreign jurisdictions. “By embracing the ZiG, Zimbabweans are not just accepting a new currency—they are reaffirming their commitment to building a prosperous and self-reliant nation,” he said.
