Mutsvangwa takes Covid-19 vaccine

Harare (New Ziana) – Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa on Monday encouraged Zimbabweans to take the COVID-19 vaccine as it was safe and would help the country avert further loss of life from the virus.

She said this soon after taking her first dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine at Harare’s Wilkins Hospital.

Zimbabwe started a voluntary COVID-19 vaccination programme two weeks ago after receiving 200 000 doses of the drug from Chinese firm Sinopharm.

Mutsvangwa said: “This is the way to go Zimbabweans. Let us all continue to follow the protocols given to you by government and the World Health Organisation, let us do the vaccination we will save our lives, we will save our loved ones lives.”

“As the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services my job is to make sure that we disseminate information to all Zimbabweans out there to know the benefits of being vaccinated. We have been visited by this global pandemic, COVID-19 it is a serious problem and we are saying to the people of this country, it is important that those who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated. We want to achieve 60 percent (vaccination) of our population so that we achieve herd immunity,” she said.

She re-affirmed the safety of the vaccines.

“On international women’s day, this is my way of celebrating with the women of this country and also putting across the message that this Sinopharm vaccine which I have just received is good for us. Let us think seriously about this,” she said.

Zimbabwe adopted a phased approach to its inoculation programme, focusing first on frontline workers.

More vaccines from different sources are expected in the country soon.
