Goromonzi, (New Ziana) – Government will from next year rotate the hosting of national events among all the country’s provinces, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Saturday.

Until now, the capital Harare has been the ceremonial home of national events, with only small side events held in provincial capitals.

President Mnangagwa told delegates to the ruling Zanu PF party annual
conference that starting with next year’s 40th independence celebrations, hosting rights will be rotated.

“The responsible departments should move swiftly to prepare for the
landmark 40th national independence commemoration, to be held away from the capital city, Harare,” he said.

“The independence was not for Harare, it was for the entire country. In future some of the national events should be held with the people.”

Among the country’s notable national events are independence day in April
and Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day in August.
