Harare, (New Ziana) -Kenya is eager to expand cooperation with Zimbabwe in multiple sector, particularly trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange, an envoy has said.
Kenyan ambassador-designate to Zimbabwe, Gertrude Nyausi Angote said this on Wednesday soon after presenting her diplomatic credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.
”We came to Harare as the Republic of Kenya. You know that we share very close economic ties in trade and investment, but also, more importantly, we intend to deepen our diplomatic relations in many ways. We have our priorities, and those are in trade and investment,” she said.
Tourism and cultural exchange also feature high on the agenda and Angote noted that both countries have a strong history of collaboration which they are looking to build on past successes.
On regional and continental challenges, the envoy highlighted climate change as a critical area of concern for Africa, saying Kenya hopes to work closely with Zimbabwe to build resilience and advance action against its effects.
”Africa is disproportionately affected by climate change. With the climate change agenda, we are looking at working with Zimbabwe in strengthening our resilience and coming up with action to deal with its effects,” she said.
Angote commended the existing cooperation between the two countries in peace-building efforts through the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC), where both Presidents have played key roles.
”We are looking at continuing those kinds of relations and deepening our engagements,” she said.
She further expressed optimism about strengthening ties in the education and agriculture sectors, particularly in areas that promote food security.
