Newly appointed Ministers sworn in

Harare (New Ziana) -Zimbabwe’s newly appointed Cabinet Ministers were on Tuesday sworn into office, setting the stage for them to start their work in their different portfolios.

The Ministers and the deputies that have so far been appointed, took their oaths of office at State House before President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a day after he announced their appointment.

A sizeable number of Ministers who served during the first term of the Second Republic made a comeback, signalling continuity, while a sprinkling of younger members also joined the government.

The new Cabinet is expected to accelerate the implementation of programs meant to transform the lives of Zimbabweans through the attainment of Vision 2030, which seeks to turn the country into an upper middle income
economy.

President Mnangagwa was flanked by his two deputies General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga and Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi, as he presided over the ceremony, which was followed by a photo moment on the grounds of the
State House.

First to take their oaths were Cabinet Ministers, followed by Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and then Deputy Ministers.

Speaking soon after the swearing in ceremony, newly appointed Deputy Finance and Investment Promotion Minister David Mnangagwa said he was up to the task at hand.

“I am humbled in being appointed to be part and parcel of the people to serve the nation. I take my task with the seriousness it deserves and I do not mind people setting a high bar of how I will perform because it is my mandate.

“I am happy to be joining a team that has been working so hard since the Second Republic took office to create an enabling economic environment.
We are not where we want to be yet, but already the efforts are bearing fruit,” he said.

On complaints about the President appointing his son, Mnangagwa urged the people that have been hard on him over his appointment to wait and judge and track his record at a later stage.

Newly appointed Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere said it was his expectation that his tenure would see the continuation of nation building with the media playing a
crucial role in uniting the people.

“We are in a situation in the country where eight million plus people are now using smart phones and have access to various media. Information that builds the nation to that population is therefore very critical.

“This should see us as a government ensuring that the mainstream media and the social media platforms play that important role of nation building and unifying us all,” said Muswere.
